24 Hours of Prayer for COP 26

14 Oct 2021

Saturday 30 to Sunday 31 October – 24 Hours of Prayer – 5.00pm Saturday to 5.00pm on Sunday.

‘The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it’ Psalm 24:1

Come and pray for climate justice, climate action and COP26, the UN Climate change conference starting on 1 November.  Prayer will take place in Christ Church prayer room or youth room from 5pm to 10pm on Saturday and 8am to 5pm on Sunday (including during the service), during the night we ask you to pray at home.  You can also sign up for a slot at home during the day if you can’t make it to church.  Materials will be available in church to help you pray, or if you are praying at home you may find these links helpful.

We would love as many as possible to join in the final two hours on Sunday – at 3pm we encourage you to go on a prayer walk in the local area on your own, with your family, or with some friends – you can walk from home, park at the edge of the parish and walk in, or park at church and walk from there.  As you walk look for things in creation that bring you joy and give thanks to God.  In areas where there are signs of environmental damage pray for God’s healing of the world. Where there are signs of hope and people are doing good things, again give thanks and pray that those acts would multiply.  As you walk ask God to show you what part he would have you play in bringing about His purposes on the earth.  If you can walk for an hour that’s great if not come to church and finish your time of prayer there.  At 4.00pm there will be tea and scones for all, followed by sung worship and prayer as we finish together at 5.00pm.

Practically, if you are praying in the building we ask you to sign up for an hour and ask you to arrive promptly and to stay until someone comes to take over – we need people with church keys at the beginning and ending sessions.  Please use the fire door at the back of the building and knock on the prayer room window for access.  It is important that there are at least two people in the building at any time and there will be details of someone to contact if there are any problems.  If you are praying at home you can sign up for a 30 or 60 minute slot.  We would like to keep an unbroken chain of prayer for the 24 hours so please think about whether you could make the sacrifice to get up in the middle of the night to pray.

You can sign up by emailing Bobbie or signing the sheet on Sunday.
