Every Sunday morning at 10.30am
Watch online live and throughout the week
Our main weekly celebration is held on Sunday morning and broadcast online.
At the start of lockdown in March 2020 we began broadcasting weekly recorded reflections, with a mix of short talks, prayers, readings, music, drama and more. We moved back to live services in September with broadly similar content. Our aim is for everyone to have a similar experience whether they are in the building or watching at home. We have reverted to recorded, online only worship during periods of national lockdown and we are also experimenting with live services via Zoom every few weeks.
Audio versions of the services, plus recordings of former Sunday morning sermons, are available via our podcast (search for Christ Church Selly Park in iTunes or Spotify).
ALL IN SERVICE
People respond to themes in different ways: discussion, song, making something, moving around, writing, just being quiet. That’s the thinking behind the All-In service which we run several times each year, normally on the first Sunday morning of the month. It’s planned to be particularly accessible to people of all ages.
In the pre-lockdown version we would start off together in our main hall and then spread around the building to these different activities (zones) according to personal preference. Even though we can’t meet physically at the moment we have managed to replicate the experience online. We continue to include people of all ages and backgrounds in our worship.
Messy Church is a different way of doing church. Each session is based around a particular theme and includes creative activities, a short celebration time and a meal together. It’s mainly intended for people who don’t already belong to another form of church, but anyone can come, of any age and at any stage on your journey of faith.
Until lockdown we ran Messy Church on the second Sunday of the month from 4 to 6 pm. We have had to suspend Messy Church during the pandemic.
Neville Williams House
Like all residential care homes, Neville Williams House is currently closed to visitors. This means that we are currently unable to hold our short monthly services for residents and staff.
In normal times the worship includes traditional hymns, readings and a short talk, plus elements designed to trigger memories, especially in those residents who have dementia. We include activities such as making pancakes (we couldn’t actually cook them, unfortunately), schooldays and even making snowmen!
We are looking forward to resuming our visits just as soon as it is safe to do so.
Prayer is an essential element of all our home groups, currently meeting via Zoom.
Regular prayer events include:
Every Monday evening, 6.00-6.30 pm: Prayer for our Country
Last Saturday of every month, 7.30-8.15 am: Pray for the life and work of Christ Church
Several times a year (see Calendar): Mission Prayer Meeting
We also hold a short Service of Morning Prayer each Wednesday morning at 8.00 am.
