Sundays
Join us for an informal service of prayer and praise, with Bible-based teaching and a mix of contemporary and traditional songs.
What happens on a Sunday
When do you meet?
We hold one or two services every Sunday. See our services calendar for what’s coming up.
What services do you have?
8.30am – Early Service (twice a month)
A quiet service of Holy Communion with Bible readings, short reflection and contemporary liturgy.
10.30am – Main Celebration (every week)
An informal service with Bible readings, sermon, contemporary music and prayer. This service is broadcast on Zoom for those who can’t make it (for the details please contact the office).
What should I expect when I come?
First of all, a warm welcome at our front door!
Our services are informal and include hymns and modern songs. All the words for the songs and prayers are displayed onto screens.
The main focus of our services is the Bible: we read from it, explore what it means and see how it applies to us today.
Sometimes we interview church members, spotlight a particular ministry or explore things in an interactive way.
There is always space to pray, and after every 10.30 service we have members of our prayer ministry team available.
After every 10.30 service we offer free tea and coffee, so please stay for a chat. Once a month we have a church family lunch to which all are welcome.
What is available for children and young people?
We begin the service all together. After the opening prayers and songs primary-school aged children go FLAG (Fun Learning About God) and the youth go to Renew, where they have age-appropriate activities and Bible studies.
Is there a dress code?
Not at all! Some of us dress smartly, some of us don’t – if it’s hot, please feel free to wear shorts, our building can get quite warm in the sun!
Will I be forced to join in?
No – you are welcome to observe or participate as much as you feel comfortable. Someone may well come and say hello though…
What about facilities?
We have ladies, gents and a disabled WC – the building is fully accessible to wheelchair users.
Can I look before I visit?
Yes – video recordings of the reading and sermon, and sometimes other extracts of the service, are available on our YouTube channel. Audio recordings are published to our podcast (search for Christ Church Selly Park in iTunes or Spotify).
Sunday Ministries
These are some of the ministries that run alongside or during our Sunday services.
Music
We are blessed with a large number of musicians and singers who lead us in sung worship each week, in a contemporary style.
Prayer Meetings
Prayer is an essential element of all our services, groups, meetings and groups, and our life as disciples and children of God. We also host several meetings dedicated to praying for different aspects of church life.
Prayer Ministry
We encourage all our members to pray for one another, in church and during the week. However we also have a trained prayer ministry team who make themselves available after every 10.30am Sunday service and Coffee Mates.
Refreshments
At Christ Church we make cake… lots of cake! And we love to bless people with a cup of tea or coffee after our services, at all our events and most of our groups.
Renew
Our youth group meets on Sunday mornings for Bible study and age-appropriate activities, and on Wednesday evenings for social activities and games, pizza nights, thoughts about faith, and more.
Scramblers
Our Sunday ministry for primary-school aged children is called Scramblers. It involves activities, crafts and Bible stories.
Welcome Team
We have a wonderful range of people who come to church services extra early so everyone who comes is greeted with a warm welcome and a smile.
Young Adults
Students are encouraged to join our young adults group (aimed at 18-25s), but we are also keen to help our young adults integrate into the wider church family.
