Sharing God’s goodness and welcome with all
We are a community of people who are growing in our faith as Christians and seeking to let Jesus transform our lives as we worship and serve together. We share the historic Christian belief that through Jesus our broken relationships – with God and with each other – can be restored.

The Christ Church congregation was founded over 40 years ago, meeting in a church hall which had been used for many years for children’s and youth events. The new Sunday services aimed to meet the needs of whole families, including adults.
Originally called the Church Centre, the congregation grew in numbers and became increasingly independent of the parent St Stephen’s Church.
In 2004 Christ Church became a separate parish within the Church of England, and the former hall – by then in a very poor state – was replaced by our current building which opened in 2008.
Our new vicar, Ben Green, is expected to take up his post in the summer of 2021. During the period of vacancy the church is being managed by the Extended Ministry Team which is made up of people who lead in various areas of church life.
Christ Church has always had a high level of member involvement and we’re constantly grateful for the many volunteers who serve in practical ways. Even so, we value people for who they are rather than what they do, and this is a place where friendship and relationship go hand in hand with committed service.

The building following the installation of solar panels
Our building, opened in 2008, is purpose-designed to be as useful as possible to the wider community as well as the church. Use of the building is currently limited by COVID-19 restrictions but we continue to live out the values its design represents.
With two halls and several smaller rooms, plus kitchen and other essential facilities, we are able to host many different types of event, often more than one at once. All public spaces are fully accessible to wheelchair users.
Our Pershore Road location puts us on the route of the Birmingham Half-Marathon and we love joining in this annual street party. We continue to develop the building and facilities: solar panels were installed on the roof in 2018 and we are currently working to make the grounds more beautiful and wildlife friendly.
Giving and finance
Christ Church is funded almost entirely by voluntary donations, especially regular personal donations made by church members and supplemented by Gift Aid. Most people donate by standing order.
The largest proportion of our expenditure is on people: staff salaries and expenses. We also make a substantial contribution to Church of England Birmingham which collectively funds clergy salaries and costs across the whole Diocese. A proportion of our income – roughly 10% of donations to the General fund – is given in support of individuals and partner organisations around the world.
It’s not just about money… Our members contribute a lot of time, effort and expertise to the running of Christ Church and hardly any of our numerous activities could take place otherwise. These go hand in hand with our finances to make Christ Church the place it is.
Details of ways to donate to Christ Church are on our giving page.
