As I didn’t give the notices in church this morning, here are a couple of things I was going to highlight that are not on the weekly news update:
Relaunching our ministry to students and young adults

Students & Young Adults
Sam Haynes and I are relaunching our ministry to students and young adults (18-30, though the lines can be blurred a little at either end!).
From 17 September we are offering:
- 1st and 3rd Sundays
Bible study with meal 6pm every other week - 2nd Sundays
Board games with bring & share lunch after the Explore service - 4th Sundays
Church Family Lunch after the Holy Communion service - 5th Sundays
A social activity
The flyer above is being used as part of the Birmingham CU’s Church Guide, but we plan to print some as it is not only for students but for anyone aged 18-30!
Church Family Lunches
For the early church, Holy Communion was not as formal as it is today, but happened as part of a weekly shared meal.
To recognise that and to provide a regular opportunity for us to gather and eat together, from September we will be sharing a meal after our services of Holy Communion (on the 4th Sunday of each month).
Sometimes these will be catered, sometimes we will do a bring-and-share, sometimes we will go out and do a picnic. Sometimes there may be a topic we might ask people to chat about round tables, sometimes not.
I’m excited by this opportunity to grow together as a family and get to know one another (better, or for the first time!).
Church Calendar
Our church calendar is managed using ChurchSuite, which many of you have already started to use for rotas – but it does much, much more than rotas!
We will be putting upcoming events on our weekly news updates, but you can always check the most up-to-date calendar (sometimes things do change) on our website here, and in the ‘My Church Suite’ app.
If you have the app you can access the calendar in three simple steps:
- tap the ‘menu’ button in the bottom-right;
- tap ‘Church Calendar’ in the menu that appears;
- view the calendar: Featured Events at the top, a calendar underneath where you can tap on a day to see what’s on that day, and a scrollable list of events beneath that:
