Ash Wednesday Service – 8pm (22 February)
Our Ash Wednesday service of Holy Communion will start at 8pm. It is a short service focused on reflection and penitence (deliberating turning away from sin and back towards God). There will also be an opportunity to be ashed with the sign of the cross on your forehead.
Praying Together
I would love us to dedicate ourselves afresh to God and one another in prayer this Lent. To help us do that John Lanchbury and I have produced a booklet which you can download here, or pick up a printed copy from church.
Each week has a topic and a Bible passage or verses. The idea is that each day we read the passage and use one of the five points to guide our prayers – so we are all praying together, even when we are praying by ourselves.
Lifestyle Challenge
Like they did last year our Eco Team have produced a series of 26 challenges for us to try during Lent. Some are the same, some are new – you can download the full list here, or pick up a printed copy or a bookmark from church.
There will be a set of numbered pots in church – for every challenge you complete, please put a bead in that jar. Last year we hit 605 completed challenges; it would be great to beat that this year!
Lent Collect
This is the Collect prayer from the first Sunday of Lent:
Heavenly Father,
your Son battled with the powers of darkness,
and grew closer to you in the desert:
help us to use these days to grow in wisdom and prayer
that we may witness to your saving love
in Jesus Christ our Lord.
